Setup mode is active, wait 30 seconds and you can then connect to the hub over wifi.
All pink lights are indicating the hub is trying to connect over wifi.
If your map is flashing white it is currently updating. This can take up to 3 minutes.
Start small! The best way to learn is with a small kit so you can understand the full process. A 5-10 light small kit makes a perfect learner kit. (We also provide the map and frame now as well if needed) Once you get the feel for the small kit then we recommend trying the larger kits.
YES! Many of our orders are gifts to pilots. For gift kits we recommend the kits with 5-20 lights that include the frame and map. This makes assembly as easy as possible for them and they can enjoy their kit usually the same day it is received. (Setup time of 30 minutes approx)
It really depends. The small 25 light kit that we made for the video tutorials took a total of about an hour. It also depends on how much detail you want to put into it. That's the beauty of a DIY kit is you get to decide.
This is the best map file we have found, caution it is a large download and takes awhile. Direct from the FAA website.

Sure! Feel free to move at your own pace and whatever order works best for you. If you need help check out the video tab on how to connect via wifi and program.
Yes! Every hub is now enabled up to 300 airports. You can also order additional lights only through the DIY Metar store.
No, all the programming is done via WIFI. You will need a smart phone, or laptop to be able to program. (some desktops with wifi will work as well)
If other airports are working, but one is not, then first verify that they have a current weather report. You can use https://www.aviationweather.gov/ to check. Also make sure the full airport code is added. Example LAL (Lakeland, Fl) should be KLAL.
Skyvector.com is another great resource to see which airports have updated metars. (Looks familiar right?)
We can accommodate custom kits of this size. They do become pricy though. Feel free to contact us and we can put a quote together for you. Kits this size also require a separate power supply.
If this is your first DIY led sectional we recommend starting with a 5-10 light kit before attempting larger projects. Our current hubs support up to 250 lights with no modification.

This accommodates both our new and old style lights, and attaches to a power drill. Caution its sharp!
Yes the LED can only be plugged in one way for the hub to be able to communicate with them. If you ordered a kit the proper adapters have already been installed. Simply plug them in and you are good to go.
If you are extending or accidentally cut your cord, the wires on the led side with the black computer chip are the ones you want to go to the hub.
Sure! We are happy to meet you at KBOW which is where our plane is hangered. We can make arrangements to meet in the FBO. Just shoot us a message!
We have a 1966 Piper Comanche 260B that we enjoy flying out of central Florida. KBOW is our home airport.
See the video below labeled how to get back into setup mode.
Here's a picture of the chip and hub case before we add the wires to it:

There are certain dual band routers that the hub does not work with. We figured out a way to make it work and you can enable it in the settings using "Y" under wifi compatability.
Sometimes airports or towers will skip a metar reporting or the equipment is broken. With fill in the blank the hub will look at a nearby airport and attempt to guess the current condition. This will keep all the led lighted up even if the weather report is missing. SKIP will still work and keep the light turned off.
At the bottom of this page there is a great explanation, keep scrolling down :)
2023 Or Newer Maps
-Plug In Map To Power
-Within 3 Seconds Unplug Map
-Plug Map In Again And Red Lights Should Appear
-Wait 30 seconds
-You Can Now Connect Via Wifi
Wait For Pairing Mode which takes about 30 seconds, lights will turn red. (First time setup)
If you need to reenter setup mode after initial settings are entered.... Plug map in, within 3 seconds unplug and quickly plug it back in and all the lights should turn red instantly. You are now back in setup mode manually.
On your phone or computer connect to the Diy_Metar_Setup wifi network
Head to the special web address on your kit and update the settings. This is where you input your airport codes as well. Number 1 LED is the closest the the hub when plugged in.
YOU MUST PICK A SETTING FOR EACH BOX
Here is an example list of 25 airports:
KSRQ,KPIE,KMCF,KTPA,KBKV,KCGC,KOCF,KLEE,KZPH,KLAL,KX07,KBOW,KGIF,KISM,KMCO,KORL,KSFB,KDAB,KTIX,KXMR,KMLB,KVRB,KFPR,KOBE,KSEF
Need to skip a light?
Use SKIP as the airport code. Example we have Lakeland, two lights skipped, and then Bartow. The code would be:
KLAL,SKIP,SKIP,KBOW
Have a weird airport? Example X70
Add a K in front of it... KX70
Once you click save the DIY hub will save the settings and restart. It will then download the current weather for each airport code and display it. (If you have any blank LED's make sure to head over to the FAQ section for tips and tricks)
The number one issue we see is the wifi name not being capitalized correctly, or the password being typed wrong. Make sure to re-enter setup mode and verify both of these. The wifi name is case sensitive!
The DIY Metar hub runs on the 2.4 Ghz network, make sure when you are in setup mode at the top you can see your wifi network.
Verify that your internet connection is currently working, also if you are in a dorm room or office building your network administrator may need to approve your map onto the network.
If You Are Still Having Issues Set Wifi Compatibility In Settings To "Y"
After many request, you can manually place the legend in your airport codes now! You can put the legend lights anywhere in your airport codes using:
L1 = Vfr / Green
L2 = Mvfr / Blue
L3 = Ifr / Red
L4 = Lifr / Pink
L5 = Windy / Yellow
Example we have 5 airport codes, then the 5 legend lights, then 5 more airport codes.
KLAL,KBOW,KGIF,KTPA,KSPG,L1,L2,L3,L4,L5,KMCO,KMLB,KSFB,KLEE,KOCF
Want the first 5 lights to be the legend lights?
L1,L2,L3,L4,L5,KMCO,KMLB,KSFB,KLEE,KOCF
