Terms of sale and use

Effective October 15, 2026. Please read these before you buy or use a DIY METAR map.

These terms are an agreement between you and DIYMETAR LLC, a Delaware limited liability company ("DIY METAR", "we", "us"). They apply when you use this website, buy from our store, or set up or use a DIY METAR map, kit, hub or firmware (together, the "products"). By doing any of those, you agree to these terms. Payments are processed by Stripe, our payment processor.

1. Not for flight planning

DIY METAR maps and this website show weather for general awareness and display only. They are not approved for flight planning, are not a substitute for an official weather briefing, and must not be used to make any flight decision. Always get an official briefing, for example from 1800wxbrief.com or 1-800-WX-BRIEF.

Weather on your map comes from third-party sources, such as U.S. government aviation weather reports, and passes through the internet, our servers and your WiFi. It can be delayed, incomplete, wrong, or unavailable. A light can show an old report, the wrong color, or nothing at all. Flight categories and effects (wind, lightning, icing) are our own display of the reported data and may not match official products.

2. Orders, prices and payment

  • Prices are in US dollars. Before you pay, checkout shows the price of each item, shipping, any tax we are required to collect, and the total.
  • You pay the full total when you place your order, by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Your order is placed when your payment goes through: you see your order number and we email you a confirmation.
  • We may correct pricing or description errors, limit quantities, and refuse or cancel any order, including orders that look fraudulent or that we cannot ship to your address. If we cancel an order you paid for, we refund what you paid to your original payment method.
  • If you have a problem with a charge, please email us first. If you dispute a charge with your bank, we may share your order details and our correspondence with you with our payment processor and your bank to respond.
  • Quotes for group buys, international shipping and custom builds are valid only as stated in the quote.

3. Custom map files and proofs

  • We make map files from public aviation charts and the area and airports you request. Map file creation includes up to 2 free edits.
  • You are responsible for reviewing your proof. Once you approve it, we print what you approved, and we are not responsible for errors in an approved proof, such as a missing airport or the wrong area.
  • We choose the placement of lights to balance the map, except for airports you specifically request within the limits stated in the store.
  • Map files we make for you are for your personal use.

4. Shipping

  • We ship to the United States (including Puerto Rico and Guam) and to the other countries checkout offers, at the rates shown at checkout. 24x36 maps ship in the United States only unless we agree otherwise by email. For other countries, email us before you order.
  • Shipping and build times are estimates, not guarantees.
  • Risk of loss passes to you when the carrier marks your package delivered. If a package is lost, contact us and we will help you with the carrier; any reshipment is at our discretion.
  • For orders shipped outside the US, you are responsible for customs duties, import taxes and fees, and for following your country's import rules.

5. All sales are final

Our products are custom built, so all sales are final. We do not accept returns or give refunds, except where the law requires it.

If an item arrives damaged or does not work when you first plug it in, email support@diymetar.com within 7 days of delivery with photos and your order number. We will repair or replace it, at our choice. Firmware upgrades and other digital purchases are final once installed.

6. Your build and safety

  • Kits need assembly. Follow our instructions and build tips. You are responsible for your assembly, frame, mounting, and the wall or surface it hangs on.
  • Use only the power adapter supplied with your hub. Do not modify the hub or power supply, and do not use lights or power supplies from other sources except as our instructions describe.
  • Allow airflow behind the map, keep it away from water, heat and flammable materials, and unplug it before working on it.
  • Products contain small parts and cords. They are not toys; keep them away from young children.
  • We do not warrant lights, power supplies, frames or parts not supplied by us, or products you have modified.

7. No warranty

Except for the arrival remedy in section 5, and to the fullest extent the law allows, the products, the weather display and this website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not promise that your map or our service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Some states do not allow limits on implied warranties; where that applies, any implied warranty is limited to the shortest period the law permits.

8. Firmware, updates and the weather service

  • The firmware on your hub is licensed, not sold. We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use it on the DIY METAR hub it came with (the license goes with the hub if you sell or give it away). You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer or redistribute it, except as the law allows.
  • Your hub checks in with our servers and installs updates on its own. By using it you agree to these automatic updates. Updates may add, change or remove features.
  • There is no subscription fee for weather. We intend to keep delivering weather and updates to your map, but this depends on third-party weather sources, the internet, and our servers, and may be interrupted, changed, or discontinued.
  • Major new firmware versions may be offered to existing maps as optional paid upgrades.
  • How we handle information from your hub is described in our privacy policy.

9. Repairs and ship-in service

  • After the arrival window in section 5, a hub or part that stops working is replaced by purchasing a replacement from our store. We may offer repairs or replacement parts at our discretion.
  • You may ship a hub to us for a software update. You pay shipping both ways, the turnaround is 2 to 4 weeks from the day it arrives, and you are responsible for the package until we receive it, so use a tracked service.

10. This website and our content

The text, photos, designs, logos, map files and firmware on this site and in our products belong to us or our licensors. DIY METAR and METAR MAPS are trademarks of DIYMETAR LLC. Do not copy our content for commercial use, misuse or disrupt this website, or use it for anything unlawful. Links to other sites are for convenience; we are not responsible for them.

If you send us photos or reviews and agree that we may share them, you allow us to use them on our website and social media with the name you choose, and you confirm you have the right to share them.

11. Limits of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows:

  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or use, arising from the products, the weather display or this website.
  • We are not liable for any loss, injury or damage arising from reliance on weather shown by a DIY METAR map or this website, including any flight decision.
  • Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the product the claim relates to.

Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

12. Your responsibility to us

You agree to defend and hold harmless DIYMETAR LLC and its owners and team from claims, losses and costs arising from your misuse or modification of the products, your use of a map for flight decisions, or your breach of these terms.

13. Disputes and governing law

  • If you have a problem, email us first. We will try to resolve it within 30 days.
  • These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, without regard to its conflict of law rules.
  • Any dispute will be heard only in the state or federal courts in Maricopa County, Arizona, and you and we consent to those courts. Either of us may bring an eligible claim in small claims court instead.
  • To the extent the law allows, claims must be brought individually, not as part of a class or group action.

14. General

We may update these terms; the effective date at the top shows the latest version, and the terms in effect when you place an order apply to that order. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. These terms, with our privacy policy and the order details shown at checkout, are the whole agreement between us about the products.
